December Scripture Reflection: Day 2nd

Welcome back brothers and sisters.

Verse:
For a child has been born for us,
               a son given to us;
authority rests upon his shoulders;
and he is named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
His authority shall grow continually
But and there shall be endless peace
for the throne of David and his kingdom.
He will establish and uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time onward and
forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Isaiah 9:6-7

In a time of great darkness, God promised to send a light who would shine on everyone living in the shadow of death.  He is both "Wonderful Counselor" and "Mighty God".  This message of hope was fulfilled in the birth of Christ and the establishment of his eternal kingdom.  He came to deliver all people from their slavery to sin.

But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah,
who are one of the little clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me one who is to rule Israel,
whose origin is from of old,
from ancient days.
Therefore he shall give them up until the time
when she who is in labor has brought forth;
then the rest of his kindred shall return
to the people of Israel.
And he shall stand and feed his flock in
the strength of the Lord,
in the majesty of the name of the
Lord his God.
and they shall live secure, for now he
shall be great
to the ends of the earth;
and he shall be one of peace.
Micah 5:2-5

This ruler is Jesus, the Messiah.  Micah accurately predicted Christ's birthplace hundreds of years before Jesus was born!  The promised eternal king in David's line, who would come to live as man, had been alive forever - "Whose origins are from the distant past".  Although eternal, Christ entered human history as the man, Jesus of Nazareth.

Know It!
Q: What will Israel be like when the new ruler comes?
A: Peaceful

Think About It!
Q:  What are some ways you can bring peace?
A:  I can bring peace simply by showing tolerance to those who are different from me.   I can further embrace this idea by being an example
